Jury Duty - Serve with Pride The Constitution of the United States of America ![]() © United States Postal Service. All rights reserved.
"Trial by a jury of one's peers is among the fundamental democratic ideals of our nation. Serving as jurors reminds us that these ideals exist only as long as individual citizens are willing to uphold them."
- Ronald M. George, Chief Justice of California Upholding our Democracy: For most men who follow Jesus, there comes a time when duty extends beyond our own lives, beyond how we lead our families, and into how we serve our fellow man. That's what the Knights of Columbus is all about. Brother Knights glorify God by serving our communities and nations as though Christ were the one being served. When you receive a jury summons in the mail, either from the State Superior Court or the United States District Court, you are called to participate in an important public process and fulfill a civic obligation. This can mean taking several days off from work and reworking personal schedules. All persons accused of a crime or involved in a civil dispute have a constitutional right to have an impartial jury decide their cases. When you serve on a jury, you make important decisions affecting other people's lives, liberties, and property as well as your own community. Brother Knights hold unwaveringly to what is right and honorable, working to keep God in the civic arena, serving the life of the Church, and defending the democratic principles of the United States all for the glory of God. A jury trial is guaranteed in the third article of the Constitution of the United States of America, as well as the Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments.
